“Tailorable Integrated Photon-Phonon Interaction for Classical and Quantum Applications”
Photon-phonon interaction, as one of the strongest light matter interaction, has opened the door
to wide on-chip applications. For classical applications, the proposed research utilize photon-phonon
interaction to achieve wide-band, low insertion loss and energy saving on-chip isolator, exceeding the
state of the art performance. And for quantum applications, the proposed research couples high-Q
acoustic resonators with high-Q optical resonators by Brillouin interaction. Preliminary simulation
results show that at cryogenic temperature, we can achieve quantum cooperativity of 1 with µW
optical power. This will allow us to generate entangled photon-phonon pairs, and will have potential
applications in quantum information and computing.
